Welcome to my 200th POST -
Wow – here we are at my 200th post on this blog. I recently celebrated my 10th year anniversary selling autographs on eBay and now I’m heading into my third year writing this blog. I’ve decided to post a rather unusual item for this special post — A Dave Grohl SKETCH ~!!
You may or may not have noticed that I just recently listed this record for sale. Here’s the thing: when I go out looking for things to get autographed – I TRY to locate and secure unique one-of-a-kind items. I believe this signed record fits the bill nicely.
When was the last time that you saw a Dave Grohl drawing on a vinyl record? Never?
I’ve heard Dave Grohl will ocassionally do sketches – but to be honest I’ve never seen him do it so I’m not entirely certain if that’s true of not. The fact is that Dave is typically walks through crowds really fast. An autograph collector barely has time to ask for a signature — much less a sketch.
DAVE GROHL ORIGINAL SKETCH
Earlier this year I ran into Grohl outside of the Rainbow Bar in Hollywood, California. There were only three collectors at the venue. We waited all night until Dave finally stepped out at closing time. In my opinion, the rocker appeared to be ‘feeling rather good’ after a night of drinking.
We stood there with our LPs in hand and finally Dave agreed to sign some records for us. Perhaps he was feeling silly, perhaps he was a little annoyed to be dealing with autograph collectors – who knows?
I handed my record to Dave and he gave me a bit of a glare and studied the album for a second. He said something like, “What do you want on this?”
I suddenly realized that he wanted to do something more than just sign his name. I had a feeling he was thinking of doing a sketch, so I told him: “Just go ahead and do whatever you want - be creative.”
Dave’s looked me in the eyes and asked, “You SURE?”
I said, “Yeah – go ahead, man. If you want to do a drawing or whatever I’m cool with that”… (famous last words.)
Sure, Dave wanted to do a drawing on my record alright — and sketch of a GIANT COCK!! He then inscribed the record: “People who ask for autographs are RAD.” He also autographed the sketch.
To be honest, I thought he was going to write: “People who ask for autographs are DICKS!” – but laughed and decided to change the final word at the last minute.
The truth is everyone was laughing – including myself. I think Dave was just busting on us a little but he was actually pretty cool that night. He laughed and signed several records for all of us. To be honest, he signed more records for me and my buddies that night than I’ve ever seen him do. I think we all got about three to five items autographed each. That’s pretty amazing for Grohl to stand there and sign that many items. So, I really wasn’t upset that he sketched a penis on my record. I think he was just feeling silly – and when you think about it: This is a pretty RAD item!!
I mean, how often do you see Dave Grohl sketches come up for sale? I’d say almost never. Here is an extremely uncommon signed item with an original work of ‘art’ on the cover by Dave Grohl. It’s a very unique piece of rock memorabilia with a cool back-story to boot. I’ve priced the item fairly high, but I doubt you’ll run across something like this again. Grohl has been in two (three?) of the most important rock groups of that last thirty years. His signature if fairly difficult to secure, sketches almost never turn up on the resale market. What’s also cool about this is the fact that I’ve also got an EXACT PHOTO of Grohl doing the drawing – you can rest assure this item is 100% authentic.
This is a brand new copy of THEM CROOKED VULTURES debut album on Vinyl LP. The ‘Super-Group’ features Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones, and Josh Homme.
